Valley Emergency Preparedness Program
- Contact Mary Hammer at (831) 336-8895
The goal is to enable our neighborhoods to develop self-reliant, inner
supportive communities, capable of handling a variety of emergency situations
through resource identification, radio communication, first-aid/CPR and light
search and rescue training and neighborhood awareness through education; to
work with government, business and industry to provide an integrated approach
to emergency planning and response for SLV/SV residents.
We currently have 299 neighborhoods within 53 sectors participating in a
program which identifies skills and resources available in the neighborhood
and the location of the vulnerable locations. These neighborhoods share the
skills/resources with all neighborhoods in their sector. The sectors are linked
by Amateur/CB radio operators in VECOM program.
VECOM provides the communication link, either by telephone or radio, during
emergency conditions, from the San Lorenzo/Scotts Valley areas to the
appropriate agency; ie.: County Emergency Center and visa-a-versa.
